Ekranoplan "Aquaglide-5" is a high-speed craft belonging to A-class ekranoplans (WIG craft) according to International
Maritime Organization (IMO) classification.
The cruising speed of "Aquaglide-5" is about 170 km/h.
No other sea or river type of passenger craft (a liner, a motor boat or a hydrofoil) can compete with "Aquaglide-5"
by this parameter. Transition to the cruising speed (lift off) happens at a speed of 90-100 km/h.
This speed is reached within 40-50 seconds when the craft is moving on the obstacle-free waters or on the
ice-covered waters. When moving as a motor boat (partially immersed in the water) "Aquaglide-5" may reach the speed
of 80-90 km/h by manipulating with the air pressure in the floats.
SAFETY AND SEAWORTHINESS
Ekranoplan "Aquaglide-5" is designed, built and equipped with all safety systems in accordance with IMO approved
"Safety Rules for WIG craft building" .
IMO safety code and the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RMRS) certificate granted to "Aquaglide-5"
are proving the high reliability and safety of using this ekranoplan at entire operation range within permissible
At cruising speed A-type ekranoplans are always moving in "ground effect" zone i.e. moving at the same distance
from the "ground" (water, land, snow covered land or ice). This distance or "flight altitude" is one of the major
performance features of ekranoplan showing its seaworthiness. When moving over the water (sea, river, lake)
for "Aquglide-5" the maximum of the waves height for the lift off and moving of at cruising speed is 0.35 m
at the wind force not more than 5 m/sec corresponding to 2-3 points of Beaufort scale.
Alighting (landing on water) is permissible at the waves’ height about 0.5 m at the find force of not more than 10 m/sec.
One of the key safety factors the for A-type ekranoplans is the immediate landing availability
(a runway is always under the craft) not available in case with the aircraft and even with helicopters.
Strong and lightweight hull made of fiberglass in combination with the shock absorbing floats provide "Aquaglide-5"
with the highest rate of vitality. The design of the ekranoplan makes it possible to keep the craft afloat
in case of destruction at a collision with flooding of 2/3 of the craft bays.
The individual safety jackets, signaling devices and emergency radio aids are available on board the craft in case of
emergency. The entry/exit doors on both sides of the craft provide escaping of the passengers in case of emergency.
The craft onboard navigation system provides the capability of locating the craft with the help of GPS/GLONASS system.
Using ekranoplans in the transportation systems offers the new level of service in carrying passengers and cargoes.
For the regions with developed transport infrastructure, with high business activity and with intensive passengers
and cargo traffic the time for the transportation becomes a very important factor. High speed water network
transportation service can provide a considerable contribution to the efficiency of the transportation system in general.
For some regions and territories where the traditional transportation either not possible or not efficient because
of the harsh climate conditions (undeveloped transport infrastructure, problems with the winter season navigation,
very high cost of using helicopters etc.) the use of the ekranoplans may resolve many problems as the most
efficient way of transportation service. The cost of transportation when using ekranoplans will always be less of
that when using aviation at comparable speeds. .Good illustration of the efficiency of ekranoplans is their capability
to provide connections between all Russian cities along the Black sea coast line within a daytime.

For "Aquaglide-5" the cost of one passenger/km is about US$0.22.
It is also very important to note that ekranoplan can be used all year around while the river or lake-type motor boat
fleet cannot be used for almost 4-6 months a year. The most profitable routes for the ekranoplans to be used for
passenger carrying are those of a distance of 30 km and longer.
The comfortable cabin of "Aquaglide-5" is provided with aviation type passenger seats. The ventilation,
heating or air conditioning systems, good observation through the large windows and easy access to the
entry/exit side doors make the trip comfortable and not tiring. Despite of the high moving speed the passengers
do not experience the g-load discomfort. The “ground effect” and automatic stabilization of the ekranoplan are
minimizing the hull vibration on all phases of the trip including lift-off and alighting.
The noise level produced by the propellers of the ekranoplan is typical to that of produced by general aviation
and even at the lift-off the passengers can talk to each other not increasing their voices.
When the ekranoplan is anchored the passengers may step out on the wings for taking pictures, fishing,
diving, sun- bathing, etc.
The aircraft-type contour and the geometry of "Aquaglide-5" hull are making it look different and highly competitive
as compared with other craft.
The hull, wings and empennage can be painted in a fancy way attracting public
attention showing not only the prestige and high social status of the owner but also the comprehention of the
high-tech way of improving the life style.

EASY IN OPERATION
To control "Aquaglide-5" is as easy as to drive a car.
The design of the ekranoplan provides automatic stabilization when moving at various speeds and at maneuvering.
The control system of the ekranoplan is synchronically changing the position of the rudders and of the flap depending
on the travel of the steering wheel and engine control levers. For the control at low speed the hydrodynamic rudder
is extended from the tail part of the hull. To increase the maneuverability the difference of propellers thrust
is deployed allowing the ekranoplan to turn around. The dashboard and instrument panel provides the information about the
moving parameters, systems’ monitoring and the bearings of the ekranoplan.
The large windshield and windows provide the panoramic observation from the captain’s work station.
EASY IN MAINTENANCE
Easy access to the bays, systems, components and units of "Aquaglide-5" makes the maintenance and repairs very simple.
For the most of the work to be carried out there is no need for docking or for special rigs – just a place for the
craft and some tools are required. The most important and complicated parts of the ekranoplan – "Mercedes-Benz" engine,
transmission with the propellers, air shock absorbing equipment have pretty long service life and reliability providing
failure-free operation of the ekranoplan for a long time.
"Aquaglide-5" is capable to move on shallow waters, sandbanks, beaches, land, grass, snow, ice and other relatively
flat surfaces. This feature allows using ekranoplan in the places inaccessible for other transportation means.
If the coast landscape has less then 5 degrees slope then "Aquaglide-5" can perform self-landing for
embarkation/disembarkation of passengers, moving to the parking zone or for servicing.
YEAR AROUND OPERATION
"Aquaglide-5" practically offers the possibility of the year around navigation – frozen and ice-covered water
reservoirs are not making problems for the operation of the ekranoplan. In the high latitude areas and in tundra
zone "Aquaglide-5" is capable to upgrade radically the transportation efficiency at minimum of the operational cost.
The year around operation capability becomes a very important factor for rescue operations, medical assistance for
remote areas, delivery of mail and other urgent and important missions.
